His horticultural career took him to Packwood House in England
a Grade II listed garden, owned by the National Trust. As part of Martyn's responsibilities he helped to
preserve the gardens original design whose Carolean garden dated back to approximately 1650-70 and incorporates a sunken garden
which has extensive perennial borders and Yew topiary.

Following Packwood House was Hodnet Hall Gardens in Shropshire, England. The design was
commenced in the 1920’s and is set around a series of lakes and pools occupying some 60 acres of land. Martyn
was in charge of the conservation and
implementation
of current plantings.
